2007年后，融资银行在航运业的投资规模骤减，航运业日益依赖于各种融资渠道，私人股本基金逐渐取代传统的融资手段，占领了大量的融资市场。根据船舶经纪人Gibson给出的一份最新报告显示，“航运业近年来已经成为私募基金的热门选择，估计近2014年有至少70亿美元资金进驻航运。

就目前而言，全球航运业在疲于应付30年来最严重的景气滑坡，私募基金业者也正减少对航运业的庞大押注，此举料将加速航运产业重整。
